Secretary Scholars Program

You are invited to partake in an excellent networking event for all agriculture students and people who are interested in career in agriculture. The Secretary Scholars Program is designed to provide students a glimpse into our agricultural industry, hopefully supplementing and adding texture to the students class room experiences. During the winter, the program moves indoors and centers around career programs for students by allowing students to talk to professionals with in the agriculture field. This will be a great opportunity for all students that attend to network and learn about more careers in agriculture. Admission is free and is sponsored by the Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Ed Kee, the Delaware Department of Agriculture and assisted by the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at The University of Delaware. There will be a bus to pick us up at the back of Townsend Hall at 9AM on March 2 and drop us off at the Delaware Department of Agriculture in Dover Delaware. Lunch is included on the trip Please dress informal and for the weather. RSVP by February 25th.

VMCAS Testers! Pre-vetters, take a look!

The 2013 VMCAS application will launch on June 7, 2012. Before we launch this year's application, we are asking students, advisors and admissions staff to assist us with testing the application.

This is an excellent opportunity for applicants to familiarize themselves with the application prior to the roll-out in June. We will open the application for testing in mid-April and we will test for approximately 1 1/2 weeks.

To sign up for testing, please send an email as soon as possible to vmcas@aavmc.org with your name and your email address. Please put "Application Tester" in the subject line. Testers will be contacted with instructions once the application is ready.

NATIONAL ZOO TRIP!

We have changed to date for the National Zoo trip to May 6 because the previous date was the same as Relay for Life. The bus cost will be approximately $20 per person BUT that covers the drive there and back, gas, parking, and there is no entrance fee! So the only other cost would be lunch (unless you pack one). Please feel free to invite friends and non-animal science club members as well! We need to fill the bus!

BBQ Chicken fundraising idea

Mr. Alphin presented this idea to the Animal Science Club for a potential fundraising opportunity if the club is interested & has enough time/people, etc...
RECIPE: vinegar, vegetable oil, black pepper, salt, poultry seasoning, eggs, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper + chicken halves...slow cook chicken over charcoal barbeque pits for ~ 2 hrs. turning & basting with special savory sauce every 15 minutes...it's a different kind of BBQ!

NMPF National Dairy Leadership Scholarship Program

The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) is now accepting applications for its National Dairy Leadership Scholarship Program.

An application form for the scholarship program is attached, as well as an informational flyer that may be displayed on a bulletin board. Please forward this information to qualified graduate students in your department and encourage them to apply.

Each year, NMPF allocates monies toward scholarships for the purpose of supporting graduate students actively pursuing dairy-related fields of research that will directly benefit milk marketing cooperatives and the U.S. dairy industry at large.

Graduate students from a variety of academic disciplines serving the dairy industry have received scholarships from NMPF in recent years. General research areas which have provided useful information to our milk marketing cooperatives include, but are not limited to:

• Agriculture Communications	• Economics
• Animal Health	• Environmental Science
• Animal and/or Human Nutrition	• Food Science
• Bovine Genetics	• Food Safety
• Dairy Products Processing	• Herd Management
• Dairy Science	• Marketing and Price Analysis

Completed applications must be received by NMPF no later than May 4, 2012. Applications are also available on the NMPF website at www.nmpf.org/about_nmpf/scholarship.

Alpha Zeta is a coed Honors Agriculture Fraternity here at UD. AZ requires that members are from majors and minors in the college of Agriculture and Natural Resources and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Alpha Zeta is the first and oldest collegiate society for agriculture students and has more than 115,000 alumni and over 3,000 student members at 74 universities. It's a great way to get more involved on campus, especially in both the Agriculture and Greek communities. Members participate in many service, philanthropy, Greek and social events throughout the year. It's a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people that all share similar interests to you.
