1. National Zoo trip: we are looking into finding different transportation since we don’t have enough people...keep signing up! We need 39 total!!

I am writing you today to inform you about a unique educational opportunity at the University of Missouri's Veterinary Master of Public Health program. The Veterinary Master of Public Health is offered as a dual degree program (DVM/MPH) or as a standalone program.
This program may be of interest to you for several reasons including:

1. The MU veterinary admissions committee looks favorably upon applicants that are working on or have completed a graduate degree;
2. Several courses for the MPH program are shared courses with the DVM curriculum;
3. Nonresident students can claim residency in Missouri after twelve months. This not only decreases the cost of tuition, but you can also apply for vet school in the Missouri resident pool;
4. We are one of five veterinary MPH programs accredited by CEPH (Council on Education for Public Health); and

OLD BUSINESS

AG DAY IS ALMOST HERE!

THEREFORE...

• if you are a member of the club, you must sign up to volunteer one shift at Ag Day...your membership will be revoked if you do not sign up...these shifts need to be filled:Face painting (3 ppl) 2-4 pm; Wool sales (1 person!) 2-4 pm; Equine 10-12 pm, 2-4 pm; Clean up 4-5:30 pm
  You do not need to be Picasso to face paint...this is a huge part of our fundraising; feel free to sign up for extra shifts, we need a few extra hands for the dairy show demonstration & sheep shearing*sign up here: google doc: AG DAY sign up

• Posters are due 4/25...next week we will finish up posters & review animal facts for Ag Day (feel free to meet outside of club meetings to work on your posters!)

As previously mentioned, we will reimburse you for additional crafts that you purchase within reason (approx $15).

ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Tuesday, April 24th, Alpha Zeta is hosting a bowling event at the Blue Hen Bowling Lanes (it's in Newark shopping center at the bottom of mainstreet). It's from 10pm-midnight and it's $10 for the 2 hours of bowling, shoes included. The proceeds benefit the St. Jude's foundation.

Upcoming events:

• Tomorrow - Come to the UD Undergrad Pre-Vet Panel tomorrow (Thursday) at 6pm in Townsend 132! Ask questions of recent veterinary school applicants/interviewees while the process is fresh in their minds! google doc sign up sheet: pre-vet panel

• Next Wednesday 4/18 - A speaker from admissions at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) will be speaking to us at 6:30pm!

Meadowset Farm & Apiary in Landenberg, PA, is seeking one enthusiastic and energetic intern for its 2012 season or year-round employment if desired. The intern will have the opportunity to gain direct experience in all aspects of operating a small-scale sheep dairy and apiary with an on-site farm store.
About the internship: This is a 30-35 hours per week internship ideal for individuals considering farming as a career path. Prior livestock / sheep / dairy experience is helpful but not required. However, we ask that applicants be open-minded and eager learners, sincerely interested in sustainable agriculture, willing to put in physically demanding days and work outdoors in all types of weather, and bring a positive outlook and sense of humor to the internship experience. Meadowset Farm & Apiary is operated by two large animal veterinarians and is in its 11th year of operation. The past 6 years were dedicated to breeding dairy sheep with the completion of a milk house and milk processing room this spring. Thus, this year represents an exciting shift as we launch our dairy and new farm store. The intern will play a significant role in the farm's overall development, and we are looking for applicants who are comfortable working as members of a small, hardworking team and independently. As an intern, your days will be spent working on activities such as: managing livestock (dairy ewes, lambs, chickens and bees (if desired), field work consists of pasture and fence maintenance, some weeding and mowing and
managing a small orchard and vegetable garden.
Education: While learning at the farm will largely be a hands-on experience access to artisanal cheese making techniques will be available as well as introduction into milking techniques and dairy sheep health.
Internship Start Date: April 2012 Internship End Date: October 2012. This also could be a year round job. Compensation: The intern will receive a weekly allowance based on a 30-35 hour week, produce and milk from the farm, eggs from our small flock of chickens and references or letters of recommendation.

VMCAS Testers! Pre-vetters, take a look!

The 2013 VMCAS application will launch on June 7, 2012. Before we launch this year's application, we are asking students, advisors and admissions staff to assist us with testing the application.

This is an excellent opportunity for applicants to familiarize themselves with the application prior to the roll-out in June. We will open the application for testing in mid-April and we will test for approximately 1 1/2 weeks.

To sign up for testing, please send an email as soon as possible to vmcas@aavmc.org with your name and your email address. Please put "Application Tester" in the subject line. Testers will be contacted with instructions once the application is ready.

Agricultural Marketing Clerk (Summer Intern Program)

The position is located in the Standards Division of the National Organic Program (NOP). The NOP carries out a myriad of activities relating to developing, implementing, and enforcing organic agriculture standards. One key Standards Division activity is managing the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances, which identifies substances that may and may not be used in organic production and handling. The incumbent serves as an Agricultural Marketing Clerk, responsible for working with the Division's National List Coordinator to assist in National List management and tracking. Activities include: Working with the National List Coordinator to populate the National List Database, run reports and queries, and troubleshoot data entry issues; assist in developing systems for managing National List records and historical documents; assists in National List petition reviews, including data entry, assessing petitions for completeness, and notifications of missing information.
